Leeds United needed only twenty two minutes to crush Besiktas with three goals.
It is hard to believe that the Istanbul club beat FC Barcelona 3-0 last week as they collapsed in minutes of the start at Elland Road.
Ian Harte swung a low cross through the penalty area that the visiting defence allowed to reach midfielder Lee Bowyer in an unmarked position in front of goal and he clipped the ball in.
It was a sign of what was to come.
Australian Mark Viduka started his first game for Leeds n three weeks after his trip to the Olympics and he was clean through in the 9th minute only to fire his low shot too near to Nigerian goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu and he managed to touch the ball onto the cross bar.
From the resulting corner Viduka was unmarked to glance in a 10th minute header after a cross from Gary Kelly.
Besiktas switched to three central defenders but their disastrous start was complete when Dominic Matteo stabbed in a goal after a near post scramble.
Four minutes from the break Matteo hit the cross bar with a snap shot from a corner as Leeds completely dominated.
Besiktas created only two chances. A long range shot from Miroslav Karhan came close to the target and Dursan's neat turn and shot earned no reward when he hit the ball straight at goalkeeper Nigel Martyn.
Alan Smith almost scored a fourth in the 49th minute but he was unable to steer his diving header on target.
Dursan forced a save from Martyn with his legs after a run through the Leeds defence and Umit hit a shot into the side netting moments before Eirik Bakke made it 4-0 with a drive from the edge of the penalty area after he was set up by Viduka.
Pascal Nouma was lucky not to be sent off in the 75th minute for throwing a punch at Danny Mills. The Frenchman took his shirt off and threw it away when he was substituted seconds later. Besiktas had completely surrendered.
Bakke had a header saved and from the corner Darren Huckerby had time to turn and shoot in and the substitute crossed from the left for Bowyer to slide in at the far post for his second goal.
