Sporting Lisbon threw away a 24th minute lead in Moscow to crash 3-1 in the end to Spartak.
Sa Pinto was able to cash in when Spartak goalkeeper Alexander Filimonov spilled a weak shot into his path to gift a goal to the Portuguese international.
Spartak were not to be denied though as they tried to revive their chances of qualifying for the second phase. Brazilian striker Robson scored in the 43rd minute after another goalkeeping error.
Peter Schmeichel fluffed a clearance and the nimble Robson accelerated onto the loose ball and fired in the equaliser.
Sporting could not afford any errors and the home team were able to surge ahead in the second half and took the lead in the 67th minute when substitute Marcao jumped to head a high cross from another second half introduction Vassily Baranov.
Marcao finished the game and put Sporting Lisbon closer to elimination nine minutes from time when he linked up well with Robson to be put clear for a neat low finish.
