Champions League - SK Sturm Graz 2 Panathinaikos 0

First Published: Feb 14, 2001

A goal each from Mario Haas and Tomislav Kosijan gave Sturm Graz a good win over Panathinaikos and all but knocks the Greek team out of the Champions League.

These were the first points earned by the Austrian champions in the second phase but the victory again emphasised how strong the Graz team can be in their own stadium.

Haas was signed last month from Strasbourg and started his second spell with the club tonight. He marked his debut with a 60th minute goal after coming on as a substitute. His close range finish set up Graz for a win that seemed unlikely as Panathinaikos controlled possession for long spells but the home team scored again with a goal from nothing.

Andres Fleurquin sent a square pass to Kosijan and he smashed in the goal with a long range drive that ended Greek hopes.
