UEFA Cup - CD Alaves 3 Internazionale 3

First Published: Feb 15, 2001

Alaves produced a super show but found Internazionale willing to match them for entertainment value in this 3-3 draw.

The Liga side came from two goals behind to equalise with all the action coming from the end of the first half.

Alaves top scorer Javi Moreno got the scoring underway with a glancing header in the 44th minute but the Spanish side were unable to see out the half as leaders because Uruguayan striker Alvaro Recoba made a mess of their offside trap to score with a neat finish.

Recoba repeated the trick with the same move to break apart the home defence in the 50th minute and finish.

Ten minutes later and Inter seemed certain winners after cool striker from Christian Vieri as he chased onto a long pass over the top.

But Alaves fought back well and were inspired by a booming free kick from Oscar Tellez in the 70th minute and substitute Ivan Alonso followed this up with an even harder shot three minutes later as Inter rocked badly. Cosmin Contra almost won the match for Alaves when a low drive hit the post in the 87th minute.
