UEFA Cup - FC Porto 3 Nantes 1

First Published: Feb 16, 2001

FC Porto came from behind to score three times against Nantes to make home advantage count.

The French side made their counter attacking tactics work in the 17th minute when Frederic Rocha created a quick break to feed Hassan Ahamada inside the penalty and he carried the ball into his path and buried a low shot.

Nantes only led for three minutes though with Russian midfielder Dmitri Alenichev falling in the penalty area under a tackle from Sylvain Armand for defender Jose Esquerdinha to convert a penalty kick with a well placed shot.

Porto led in the 58th minute after an unfortunate own goal by Nicolas Gillet when he diverted a cross from Jesus Pena into his own net.

Carlos Secratario fired in a good winning goal after he beat a defender to create space and launched a twenty metre shot into the net.
