SK Sturm Graz produced one of their greatest European results and are now in contention for a place in the last eight.

Any observer who saw their first match in the series this season at Glasgow Rangers will be amazed at their progress and tonight it was at the expense of Panathinaikos who have now no chance of progress.

The home side dominated the early exchanges but it was the Austrian champions who struck first through Markus Schopp who was put clear for a low finish.

Four minutes before half time Sturm assumed a commanding position after a break down field led by Mario Haas which saw the midfielder bury a low drive into the net.

A 73rd minute header from Iannis Goumas was the home side's only consolation.
