Copa America - Colombia 2 Venezuela 0

First Published: Jul 12, 2001

Copa America hosts Colombia got off to a winning start on Bogota against ten-man Venezuela.

Luis Valenilla was sent off early in the second half for a second booking but by then the Colombians were leading 2-0 thanks to a low drive from Freddy Grisales and a well-taken penalty from Victor Hugo Aristizabal. Colombia are fielding a squad of resevres and youth team prospects in the rescheduled Copa which their opponents have only had three days to prepare for.
