Copa America - Brazil 2 Peru 0

First Published: Jul 16, 2001

Brazil ended a run of six matches without a win to beat Peru 2-0 in Cali with a second string team.

Alex set up Guilherme who hit a first time shot in the tenth minute low and beyond goalkeeper Oscar Ibanez.

Peru had Santiago Salazar sent off to effectively end Peru's chances of getting back into the match as they started the second half well. Salazar hacked down Juninho Paulista to earn an instant dismissal.

Substitute Denilson scored an excellent goal to seal the win in the 86th minute. He caried the ball through the middle of the tiring defence to side foot a powerful low drive across Ibanez from the edge of the penalty area.

Brazil now need only a draw against a disinterested Paraguay on Wednesday to reach the last eight of the rescheduled Copa.
