Copa America - Colombia 2 Honduras 0

First Published: Jul 27, 2001

Hosts Colombia will contest the Copa America final after a 2-0 semi final win in Manizales over Honduras.

Honduras enjoyed their moment of glory earlier in the week when they knocked out an ailing Brazil team and they were only invited to take part at the last minute after Argentina withdrew from the rescheduled event.

Colombia have yet to concede a goal in the competition will meet Mexico on Sunday in Bogota in the first time they have reached the final since 1975 when they lost to Peru.

Colombian striker Aristizabal is now the tournament's leading scorer with six goals.

Bedoya gave Colombia an early lead with a dipping shot from the edge of the penalty area after only six minutes as Colombia started the game well and pegged back Honduras in their defence.

Honduras striker Amado Guevara hit an excellent free kick that almost equalised on the half hour mark but his effort was touched over the crossbar by goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba.

Another Honduran free kick - this time from Julio Leon from a narrow angle - came back off the crossbar in the second half.

But Colombia responded with the winner as Aristazabal converted a Freddy Grizales cross from close range in the 63rd minute to settle the match.
