In the end Colombia got their Copa America and the title itself with a 1-0 win over Mexico in Bogota.

The Copa was cancelled at the last minute before political and television pressure saw it rescheduled giving teams just three days to prepare for the event and most of the participants chose to field reserve sides.

But that did not matter for the home fans as defender Ivan Ramiro Cordoba jumped higher than the Mexican defense to head in a corner kick in the 65th minute and give Colombia its first Copa title since the event startes in 1916.

The hosts did not concede a single goal as they won six times so Colombia are worthy champions.

The farcical build up to the event may sour football in South America for some time and the devalued Copa now counts for little after the expansion of World Cup qualifiers in recent years but Colombia are also well placed to reach Korea and Japan in what would be a more significant triumph.
