Austria earned an important win over Israel in Vienna to move into second place in group seven behind Spain,

Michael Baur scored an own goal in the sixth minute to give Israel an early and unexpected lead but he cancelled this out within three minutes when he struck a powerful header from a free kick from the right hand side to equalise.

Baur used his breathless start to the game in the 12th minute to foul Avi Nimni in the area but Israel captain Tal Banin missed the penalty kick.

Austria won the game in the 41st minute with their own penalty when Israeli defender Amir Shelah was judged to have handled. Captain Andreas Herzog smashed in the spot kick.
