2002 World Cup - Portugal 2 Holland 2First Published: Mar 29, 2001A last minute penalty from Luis Figo saved Portugual from defeat in a wonderful match in Oporto. Portugal needed two goals in the last seven minutes as they mounted raid after raid against the Dutch goal to recover a two goal deficit. Figo hit his penalty hard into the left hand corner of the net with only twenty seconds left. The draw means that the Portuguese are second in their group on 11 points, behind Ireland on goal difference after the Irish had a 3-0 away win over Andorra earlier today. The Dutch are three points behind in third place but they must have thought a win was theirs for the taking after an excellent performance. Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink scored from the penalty spot after 17 minutes after he was brought down by Portugal goalkeeper Quim. Patrick Kluivert established control for the visiting side two minutes into the second half when he reached a cross from FC Barcelona team mate Marc Overmars from the left wing. But the game exploded with seven minutes to go. Pauleta scored from close range after a Figo cross. The Bordeaux striker then earned the penalty to allow Figo to bask in the delight of the Oporto crowd. Holland nearly took the lead when Overmars forced two greart saves from Quim after a run in on goal and Kluivert also saw Quim save a late effort that could have won the game.
