Slovenia will face either Italy or Romania in November play-offs for the 2002 World Cup finals after they ran oput easy winners against the Faroe Islands.

Russia won group one but Slovenia needed to make sure of the play-off berth with Yugoslavia beating Luxembourg 6-2.

Alexander Ceh gave the home team the lead in the 13th minute from close range when he was put clear by Milan Osterc to hit a low shot on the run. He followed that up with a 31st minute free kick curled in from the edge of the penalty area to dip into the net and seal the win.

Debuting substitute Senad Tiganj ended the scoring in the 82nd minute when he was unmarked to convert a low cross.
