Stress leaves Russia coach ready to quit

First Published: Oct 09, 2001 Oleg Romantsev, having brought Russia to their first World Cup qualifying place since 1994, has said he may step down as coach at the end of the year. Quoting stress as the reason for his wish to depart, the often critical coach hit out at the Russian Football Union for not keeping him sufficiently informed about their decisions. Russia qualified last Saturday with a crunching 4-0 defeat of Switzerland in Moscow. Romantsev is expected to remain as coach for Spartak.
