World Cup - Belgium 1 Tunisia 1

First Published: Jun 10, 2002

Tunisia found few problems in holding a draw against a disappointing Belgium who took the lead but could only hold onto it for three first half minutes.

A game of few chances was enlivened in the 13th minute by the first real attack by the European side and Marc Wilmots volleyed in a shot from close range after a head back across goal by Peter Van der Heyden following a deep cross to the back post from the left wing.

But Tunisia struck back and Raouf Bouzayne curled in a free kick from a central position in the 16th minute past goalkeeper Gert De Vlieger after striking the ball very well from all of 30 metres.

From there Tunisia took control and Zied Jaziri swept a shot from the right wing across the face of goal as he turned .

Hatem Trabelsi of Ajax carried the ball well for the Tunisians throughout and his cross saw Kais Ghodbane hit a volley that curled just away from goal after good right wing work from the right back beat a defender on 51 minutes.

Tunisia goalkeeper Ali Boumnigel had to save at Bart Goor’s feet as he chased a through pass on the elft of goal four minutes later and Ghodbane tested De Vlieger with a low drive in the 91st minute after a corner was cleared to his feet and a minute later Ghodbane hit the last shot of the game just over the crossbar on the run.
