Nakata to join Olympic squad

Japanese superstar Hidetoshi Nakata is to join up with the Olympic squad at the end of this month.

The AS Roma midfielder will break from training with the Italian club to play two friendlies ahead of the Sydney Olympic tournament next month.

The JFA have confirmed Nakata has been selected to face Kuwait on September 2nd and Morocco on September 5th as Phillipe Troussier's under-23 side prepares for the Olympics.

Roma signed Nakata from Perugia last year for a Japanese record £13 million but he his future at the club has been uncertain this summer.

Lens made an unsuccessful bid for Nakata last week who was Asian Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998.
