Ipswich Town have made Hermann Hreidarsson their new record signing.

The Suffolk club face Tottenham tomorrow in their first game in the Premiership after promotion and the Icelandic international is expected to start after his £4 million signing from Wimbledon.

The clubs wrangled over the fee all week and the eventual cost of the transfer could rise to £4.5 million depending on appearances.

The 26 year old was born on the Vestmann Islands and joined the local IBV team before signing for Crystal palace in 1997 and developed into a commanding defender who is strong in the air.
