Zanetti says he turned down Real and Barcelona moves

Argentine international Javier Zanetti wants to stay at Inter despite continuing problems for the Italian club's midfield.

Zanetti had offers from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona during the summer he tells Spanish magazine 'Don Balon' today but has rejected both approaches to stay in Milan.

Inter have this afternoon denied overnight claims from Brazil that they have completed the £12 million signing of Marcio Vampeta as they prepare to face Helsinborg in a Champions League qualifier at the San Siro.

Inter trail 1-0 from the first leg and their interest in Vampeta depends on progress to the lucrative group stage of the Champions League.

Zanetti has often been linked with a move away from Inter and was a target for AS Roma last summer but says "for the moment" that his future is at the Milan club.

The arrival of Vampeta would not threaten Zanetti's prospects as the Brazilian international plays in a central role in front of the defence but Inter coach Marcello Lippi is trying out various midfield combinations as Inter prepare for the new season in Italy.

A statement from Inter says no official confirmation has been made by either them or the Sao Paolo team but last night Corinthians sporting director Carlos Nujud said the £13 million transfer of the midfielder was finished.

The Italian club have been linked with a move to bring former star Paul Ince back to help the competitiveness of the midfield while the future of Dutch star Clarence Seedorf is in question if Vampeta does complete a move.

Inter want to complete the Vampeta deal before the end of the month to register the player as eligible for European competition and they hope the Champions League.
