AC Milan want to sign Salgado

First Published: Aug 30, 2000

AC Milan are bidding to sign Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado.

The Milan club have followed up their purchase of Real captain Redondo by offering £10 million for the Spanish international right back.

Salgado has been one of Real's top performers for the past three seasons and has helped the club to two European titles since moving to the Madrid club from Celta Vigo. He is nominally a right back but has exceptional passing skills and raids down Real's right flank as an attacking wide player.

Milan know that Real president Florentina Perez is keen to see the club cover the £40 million world record fee paid out for Luis Figo last month.

The Italians are keen to offer Argentine captain Roberto Ayala in part exchange for Salgado who is on World Cup duty this week with Spain but Real are likely to ask for cash if they decide to sell the defender.
