Andriy Shevchenko is now an EU citizen say AC Milan.
The Serie A club applied for their top scorer to be recognised as an EU citizen by the FIGC and their wish has been granted.
Ukrainian international Shevchenko is already the leading scorer in Italy with 14 goals this season and hit 24 last term in his first campaign in Italy.
Milan's successful application means the club can now in effect field an extra foreign player from outside the EU in its first team. The current limit of four restricts Roque Junior, fellow Brazilian Serginho and Argentinian Jose Chamot from playing in the club's defence.
The Shevchenko case could be followed by further applications from leading Italian clubs who are looking to get around the limitation ion picking foreign players in the teams.
