AC Milan are offering £12 million to Tottenham for Serhii Rebrov.
Milan are ready to sign the Ukrainian with a bid that could give the London club an £1 million profit on their record signing who joined the Premiership club in the summer from Kyiv Dynamo.
The Italians want Rebrov to recreate his exceptional partnership with Andriy Shevchenko that dominated a highly talented Kyiv side until the striker became Milan's record £15 million signing in 1999.
Shevchenko's success - he is the club's top scorer this season with 14 goals and was leading goal getter in Serie A last term with 24 strikes in his debut season - has created a vogue for Ukrainian imports at Milan.
So impressive is Shevchenko to the Milan club that they have already sealed the purchase of defender Kakha Kaladze for next season and see Rebrov as an ideal partner for Shevchenko.
The pair spent three seasons together at Kyiv and helped the team to a Champions league semi final two seasons ago.
Rebrov would solve a selection problem for Milan with Shevchenko finding it difficult to work with Oliver Bierhoff in attack. This has meant Jose Mari stepping into matches as part of the front three but Rebrov would add another layer of depth and quality to the Milan attack.
Tottenham do not want to sell Rebrov but his goal tally is not good since his move to the club and he has not adjusted well to the speed of the English game.
With Tottenham set to miss out on a transfer fee for defender Sol Campbell - who will leave on a free when his contract finishes at the end of the season - the club could cash in on Rebrov to boost their transfer budget. Rebrov is a top quality player but the Tottenham attack has been boosted recently by the more direct approach of veteran Les Ferdinand and while Milan are ready to pay big money for the Ukrainian when the transfer season opens in Italy next week a deal could be done.
