Juventus are in talks with Parma AC to buy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
The Turin club have seen recent mistakes by Edwin Van der Sar cost them matches and have decided to set what is almost certain to be a new world record for a goalkeeper by attracting the highly rated Buffon to the club.
Juventus are offering Darko Kovacevic as part of the deal with hopes that a transfer could be done next week in time for the opening of the Italian transfer season.
Buffon would cost at least £10 million in cash plus any players Juventus and Parma could agree on.
Former Italy coach Dino Zoff installed Buffon as his automatic first choice and only a hand injury prevented him from being one of the major stars of Euro 2000.
The talented Buffon is still only 23 years of age and has ten years at the top of the world game ahead of him and Juventus are ready to spend big money to sign him. He has already won the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia with Parma.
