Dortmund buy Kovacevic from Juventus for £10 million

Juventus have agreed a £10 million transfer with Borussia Dortmund for striker Darko Kovacevic.

The Yugoslavian striker has no place in the Juve first team and will join Dortmund in January to start winter training before the Bundesliga starts again in February.

Kovacevic was caught in the change over of power at Juventus when coach Marcello Lippi quit the club in February last year to be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.

Since the arrival of the new coach the Yugoslavian has not had many chances in the first team but remains involved with his national side and has an excellent scoring record.

This record prompted Juve to pay £13 million to sign the bulky forward but have been keen to off load him for the past six months.

Kovacevic refused the chance to join Rangers in Glasgow in the late summer but now Dortmund have made him their record signing with the £10 million four year contract.

The striker first came to European attention at Crvena Zvezda when he scored 13 goals in 16 matches for the Belgrade club in 1995-96.

This prompted Sheffield Wednesday to sign him for £4 million but he only stayed five months in the Premiership.

Real Sociedad signed him for a reduced £3 million fee and he paid them back with 17 goals in his first season in the Liga and followed this up with 16 goals in his second campaign to prompt Juventus to pay an eight figure transfer sum to sign him.
