First Published: Nov 30, 2000

Australia have dropped plans to play the Catalonia team at the Camp Nou next month.

Frank Farina's team - who demolished Scotland two weeks ago in Glasgow - were lined up as replacements for Portugal who abandoned plans to play the Catalans after fierce abuse suffer by Real Madrid star Luis Figo on his return to FC Barcelona.

The game with Catalonia is not a full international and Farina cannot ask for the release of players based in Europe for the fixture on December 22nd which was intended to celebrate the centenary of the Catalonian football federation.
