Valencia to sign Ayala from Milan

First Published: Sep 05, 2000

Argentina captain Roberto Ayala is on his way to Valencia after the Spanish club and AC Milan has reached an agreemet.

The former SS Napoli star has not been one of Milan coach Zacheronni's favourites since his arrival in 1998 and now the purchase of Roque Junior makes the centre back surplus to requirements writes Rafael Salido. This situation made the international start negotiating a move to the side coached by fellow Argentinian Hector Cuper, but Milan president Silvio Berlusconi refused to sell him earlier this summer.

Presumably Ayala's pressure on the club has made Berlusconi accept his departure to Valencia. Now it is only a question of time before the 27 year old signs a new contract to play in Spain.
