Lapuente to quit Mexico job

Mexico national team coach Manuel Lapuente has presented his resignation to the Mexican Federation.

Spokesman Ricardo Martinez today confirmed the intention of Lapuente to quit, but also said that it is now up to the Federation whether to accept the offer or confirm Lapuente is still in charge writes Rafael Salido. However, Lapuente = who has lead the national team since December 1997 - would not leave his post until the qualifying round for the 2002 World Cup ends on 15th October when Mexico play Canada.

The Mexican Football Federation is considering who could be Lapuente's replacement. Enrique Meza and Brazilian Ricardo Ferreti are the two main candidates to coach the side from October.
