AS Roma striker Vincenzo Montella is a target for AC Milan.
Milan have offered £16 million to Roma but the Serie A leaders want more if they are even to consider letting Montella leave the club.
Both Roma owner and coach Fabio Capello want to keep the former Sampdoria star who scored last night in Italy's 1-0 friendly win over Perugia over South Africa.
He is on brilliant current form but is not certain of keeping his place in the team.
Montella is likely to start the weekend's Rome derby after 15 goals in only 18 starts this season but frequently complains about his lack of first team chances at the Rome club.
Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani is to meet FC Barcelona officials tonight to discuss the Andriy Shevchenko-Rivaldo swap deal that Barca would like to push through in the summer and Milan see Montella as a good Italian option for their striker force after seeing Juventus come close to sealing the transfer of Atalanta forward Luca Toni for next season.
Milan are also close to signing Angolan 19 year old Mantorras who was bought by Benfica last year for £5 million but loaned out to Alverca for the current season where he has scored nine goals so far.
