First Published: Apr 26, 2001

Latvia have fired coach Gary Johnson after last night's unexpected draw with San Marino.

San Marino recovered from conceding a first minute goal from Marian Pahars to draw 1-1 in Riga last night. It was the first point gained by San Marino since 1993 and only their second point ever in World Cup qualifying matches. The tiny hillside had lost 48 of its previous 50 matches and Latvia are second bottom of group six and hope to have a new coach in place by the time they visit Belgium on June 2nd host Croatia four days later in their next World Cup qualifiers.
