The CBF are in talks with former World Cup winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira to save their World Cup campaign.
The Brazilians were booed from the field in Sao Paolo after a 1-1 home draw with Peru on Wednesday and the four-times world champions in a fight to get among the four automatic qualifying places for the 2002 finals in Japan and South Korea.
New coach Emerson Leao only took charge last November after the CBF pleaded with Parreira to return to his former job after the sacking of Wanderley Luxemburgo.
Last month's defeat in Ecuador badly damaged Leao though and he responded by keeping his squad to face Peru secret from the media and including seven young players for new caps but with little discernible improvement despite axing Rivaldo.
Parreira has been approached to take charge in July but cited family reasons for refusing the job last year.
