England captain David Beckham could undergo a scan on his injured groin before deciding if he is fit to play against Germany in Munich in a crucial 2002 World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Beckham is under treatment for what the England camp describe as a "minor" groin strain suffered in the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.
England need to win in Munich to deny Germany the automatic qualifying pace on offer from group nine in World Cup qualification but Rudi Voller's team only needs a draw to go through and leave England struggling in a play-off.
Arsenal defender Sol Campbell will captain the side if Beckham is not fit by Thursday. The Manchester United star could be sent for a groin scan later today to determine the extent of the problem if it is not responding to treatment Beckham had throughout yesterday with England and Arsenal physiotherapist Gary Lewin.
