Juventus try again for Liverani

Juventus are making a last attempt to sign Fabio Liverani ahead of the Champions League registration deadline on Friday.

The Turin club have tracked Perugia's Liverani for months and are now offering a £15 million sum for the play maker who is expected to deputise for the injured Francesco Totti for Italy during their 2002 World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Lithuania.

Juventus want to strengthen their midfield despite the good news for the club that Dutch star Edgar Davids is to be free to play again in October.

The Italian Olympic Committee fined Davids £32,000 last night and back dated a five month ban for testing positive for the banned substance nandrolone to may meaning he will return for Juventus in five weeks.
