The Spanish federation has offered national team coach Jose Camacho a contract extension to take him to the European Championships in 2004.
Camacho's Spain will seal their qualification for the 2002 World Cup finals with wins in Austria and Liechtenstein.
The coach took over from Javier Clemente two years ago and his contract was due to end in the summer of next year after the World Cup finals. This had led to speculation that the former Real Madrid manager would return to the Bernabeu and succeed Vicente Del Bosque next year. He has yet to agree any contract extension with the Spanish federation.
