Cesare Maldini is to be confirmed as the new coach of Paraguay next week.
Maldini and the Paraguayan federation have agreed a short term contract to 30th of June next year to cover the World Cup finals after talks with president Oscar Harrison.
The frmer Italy coach Maldini will be in Asuncion on December 27th to sign the contract.
Maldini is to replace Sergio Markarian who was sacked after the South American country lost two meaningless World Cup qualifiers after clinching a place in Japan and South Korea next summer.
Paraguay approached the Italian coach last week and agreement is set for next week.
Maldini wants coach Antonio Cabrini to join him on the Paraguay bench which now initially been agreed by the Paraguayans.
Cabrini helped Italy to win the 1982 World Cup but was fired by Serie B side Crotone last month.
