Former Italy coach Cesare Maldini has signed a contract to take Paraguay to the 2002 World Cup finals.
The deal was completed overnight in Asuncion after Maldini arrived for talks after Christmas with the Paraguayan federation.
Maldini coached Italy at the 1998 World Cup finals and was also in charge at AC Milan last season. He has a contract to the end of June 2002 and has appointed Giuseppe Dossena as his assistant.
