AS Roma plan bid for Ballack

AS Roma are in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack.

The German international is a former team mate of Brazilian Emerson who became the most expensive Bundesliga player last summer when Roma completed a £14 million purchase.

Now Ballack is a transfer target for the Serie A leaders who kept a 6 point lead in the Italian league after a 1-0 hoke win over Lecce yesterday. The German has also been linked with Arsenal and Juventus but Roma will offer £7 million for Ballack.

Roma expect captain Francesco Totti to sign a new five year contract worth ££21 million tomorrow at a board meeting.

Totti was due to sign last week but has been ill with 'flu.
