Iraq protest about World Cup venue

First Published: Jan 24, 2001

Iraq are protesting to FIFA about the order to play 2002 World Cup qualifying matches in Kazakhstan.

Due to continuing sanctions from the UN against Iraq their Group Six matches against Kazakhstan have been switched so that Iraq will play both matches away from home. Originally the matches were scheduled for Nepal's capital Kathmandu and Iraq have written to protest about the change of venue. Nepal and Macao make up the other two teams in the section.
