River Plate consider Valencia offer for Aimar

River Plate are considering a £15 million offer from Valencia for their midfield play maker Pablo Aimar.

Valencia have wanted to sign Aimar for some time but FC Barcelona and Internazionale have long coveted the midfielder as well. Now the Spanish side have made a cash offer for Aimar in a hope of sealing a transfer by the weekend.

Their high offer includes 15% of the fee which Aimar is entitled to under the terms of his contract with the club.

Inter were in talks last month with the Buenos Aires club to buy Aimar while Barcelona have kept up constant links with River to monitor the time to pitch their bid into the chase.

Aimar's agent is the volatile Gustavo Mascardi and he is not talking up a transfer at the moment with River Plate wanting to keep the player until at least June and the end of the next stage of the Argentine season. The player himself is keen to leave Argentina after several clashes with reporters but while his value in the transfer market is valued so highly by Inter and Valencia a move could be a reality today with the Buenos Aires club wanting to ease financial problems and secure cash to rebuild their squad. Mascardi has made warnings over the complexity of the contract Aimar has with River which has defeated transfer bids before but Valencia hope to sign the player with their offer.

The Argentinian club refused to move a clause from his contract which said Aimar would not be sold for less than £50 million. The clause was inserted when Italian clubs tried to sign the player in 1998.
