Kyiv Dynamo's Champions League plans have been hit by a long term injury to goalkeeper Olexander Shovkovsky.

The 27 year old damaged shoulder ligaments in a 1-0 league win over Metalurg Mariupo on Saturday and is not likely to play again this year.

Kyiv face a qualifying match to reach the Champions League group stage next month while Shovkovsky is also the Ukraine national team goalkeeper. Ukraine are third in their World Cup qualifying group and trail leaders Poland by seven points with just three games remaining. They are effectively trying for a play-off place for November and the loss of Shovkovsky will hurt their chances.

Kyiv have promoted the recently signed Vitaly Reva to replace the injured goalkeeper.
