New round of Riquelme talks for FC Barcelona

First Published: Jul 31, 2001

FC Barcelona are again in talks over Juan Riquelme's future with Boca Juniors.

Barca lawyer Leopoldo Hinjos is in the Alvear hotel in Buenos Aires to meet one of the player's representatives as they prepare for Barca director Antonio Parera to join the talks again and try to find a deal to bring the Argentine play maker to Barca.

The Catalan club want Riquelme to join them in December this year after the Argentine apertura championship.

Barca agreed a club record £22 million transfer fee for the play maker in March with Boca Juniors but then failed to agree personal terms with Riquelme and then failed to reach an agreement before a June deadline that has left Boca offering their star a substantial pay rise to try and keep him at the club.

Riquelme's agent Mauricio Macri is going over Boca's latest offer to increase the player's wages to $2.5 million a season.
