Glasgow Celtic have failed with a £3.5 million bid for Leicester City captain Matthew Elliott.
The Scottish international centre back was signed by Celtic manager Martin O'Neill when he was in charge at the Premiership club and the Scottish champions bid £3.5 million for the player which Leicester have turned down.
Elliott was an initial target for O'Neill when he took charge at Celtic last summer but he agreed a new long term contract at Leicester as his wife developed a business in the town.
Celtic made their offer yesterday and are in talks with Fiorentina to take Czech star Tomas Repka unless they raise their offer again for Eliott.
