Ten man Belgium came back from the dead to rob Scotland of a vital World Cup win at Hampden Park.
Belgium were seventy seconds from victory before substitute Daniel van Buyten scored in the 92nd minute.
A hopeful ball chipped forward found the midfielder unmarked to send a looping header over goalkeeper Neil Sullivan to rest in the net and kill off the early optimism of a brave Scottish team who completely dominated the first hour.
In the build up to this game Scotland coach Craig Brown said it was essential to win the home matches in World Cup qualifying groups and his team took the lead in only the second minute.
Midfielder Craig Burley carried the ball through to Rangers striker Billy Dodds who scored his fifth goal under Geert De Vlieger.
Scotland surged forward and defender Matthew Elliott sent a header just wide of the post before De Vlieger had to pull the ball off the foot of midfielder Barry Ferguson on a run through to goal.
In the 27th minute Scotland extended their lead and gained a man advantage.
Eric Deflandre handled a Colin Hendry header on the goal line to get an instant dismissal and Dodds scored the penalty kick.
But Belgium showed great spirit to get back into the game.
The crucial turning point came in the 61st minute when Ferguson was through again to try and score but his drive cannoned off De Vlieger and went loose to set up a Belgian counter attack.
Substitute Bob Peeters won a free kick seconds after Ferguson's chance and Marc Wilmots scored with a header to set up an unexpected revival. But Scotland threw it away to take control of their group as they were unable to hold on for the win.
