Romania dump Ganea after row

First Published: Mar 26, 2001

Romania have dumped striker Ionel Ganea from their World Cup squad for "lack of professionalism".

Ganea has been axed by coach Ladislau Boloni for his performance against Italy on Saturday night in Bucharest which saw his team lose 2-0.

The Stuttgart player abused and rowed with team officials at the end of the game as the two teams left the pitch and then had a stand up row with team mates in the changing room.

He was used as a substituite against Italy and came on for the last twenty minutes of the match. He had scored 11 goals in his 20 internationals so far but his reaction to Boloni's coaching staff signals the end of his international appearances for now.
