Lemerre calls up Zebina for France
First Published: Mar 26, 2001France coach Roger Lemerre has called up under-21 defender and AS Roma star Jonathan Zebina to replace an injured Frank Leboeuf in his squad to play Spain in a friendly on Wednesday night.
The French team crushed Japan 5-0 on Saturday night but Chelsea centre back Leboeuf's season could be over after he strained his left thigh badly.
Leboeuf is up for sale at Chelsea as the London club try to cut their massive wage bill but he is not expected to pay again for at least two months which will harm any prospects the club sees for selling off the 31 year old.
22 year old Zebina is rated as a top defender of the future and has featured for AS Roma this season more times than many predicted after he signed from Cagliari last summer.
