Poland call up Wierzchowski as Dudek's deputy

First Published: Mar 27, 2001

Poland have called up a new goalkeeper to deputise for first choice Jerzy Dudek as they prepare to face Armenia in a 2002 World Cup qualifier tomorrow night in Warsaw.

The Poles won 3-2 in Norway on Saturday to give themselves an excellent chance of reaching the finals next year but goalkeeper Adam Matysek has injured his shoulder and cannot take any part in tomorrow night's game.

Jakub Wierzchowski has been called up and will be used as a substitute with Dudek regaining the place he lost to Matusek for the Oslo match.
