Hamburg fight to keep Barbarez

Hamburg SV have made an improved contract offer to their Bosnian striker Sergej Barabarez.

The forward ended the German season two weeks ago as top scorer in the Bundesliga and Deportivo La Coruna have made an £8 million bid for him after interest from Arsenal in March.

Arsenal now hope to sign Everton contract rebel Francis Jeffers next week and have turned away from Barbarez.

Hamburg have offered Barbarez a new three year deal which will double his pay.
