Newcastle are to rival Leeds United in attempts to sign Australian international midfielder Brett Emerton.
The PSV Eindhoven star is rated at £16 million by the Dutch club with Leeds now reviving interest in Leicester City's Mustapha Izzet if no deal can be done to sign Emerton.
"Feyenoord are waiting for the best offer but aren't prepared to sell him before the end of their league campaign" Emerton's agent Simon Konstantinidis said. The player is in Australia's World Cup play-off side to face Uruguay this week to decide the last qualifier the finals.
Newcastle scout Charlie Woods is at the Melbourne game to look at Emerton - one of only two Australian starters not based in the UK.
