Leeds United hope to complete the signing of Liverpool star Robbie Fowler tomorrow after medical checks tonight.
The clubs have agreed an £11 million for arguably the most talented finisher of his generation and Fowler is to watch his new club take on Chelsea at Elland Road in the Worthington Cup tonight.
Chelsea failed in a £12 million bid for Fowler earlier this year and were one of a host of clubs interested in the England striker before Leeds made their third bid for the player.
"I am not interested in recriminations but I think it is best for me and Liverpool for this to happen. I've had 15 years at Anfield but it must be obvious to everyone that the time had come to move on." "The fans were a powerful reason for me to stay but, like every footballer, I just want to play and hopefully I'll get that chance with Leeds," Fowler said last night.
His disciplinary problems at Anfield saw him fined and punished several times for drinking incidents and he had a bitter row with team coach Phil Thompson in August which all but pushed him out for the club he joined as a boyhood Everton fan.
Fowler did not make progress in talks over a new contract at Liverpool and the club have been linked with Manchester United rebel Dwight Yorke.
The 26 year old striker could have left Anfield for free next year under the Bosman ruling and Liverpool have decided to cash in a player who is not a certain starter for them.
Fowler met with agent George Scott to all but end talks with Liverpool on a new contract and open the way for Leeds to succeed with their latest bid.
Jari Litmanen and new signing and Milan Baros will see more time in the Liverpool first team now but the Premiership leaders are still keen on Fiorentina forward Nuno Gomes.
Leeds can now sell off Mark Viduka to AS Roma with the capture of Fowler.
