First Published: Nov 28, 2001

FIFA have confirmed that Spain are to be the eighth and final World Cup seeds ahead of Saturday's 32-team draw in Pusan.

England and Mexico were considered as possible seeds ion a bizarre meeting of the Organisation Committee for the finals which saw some delegates push Mexico as the best alternative to another European seed after the delegates agreed not to seed either Cameroon or South Africa.

Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Italy were also named as seeds by the tournament's organising committee.

Holders France and joint hosts Japan and South Korea will all be seeded as well.

Seeding depended on a teams' place in the current FIFA rankings and their record in the last three World Cups with Spain 7th in the latest list which is famous for its anomalies .
