Michel set for Tunisia World Cup job

First Published: Oct 26, 2001

Henri Michel has quit as coach of Aris Salonika to take charge of the Tunisian national team at next year's World Cup finals.

Michel has had a stormy relationship with Aris managing director Takis Andrias but was already considering a move to the Tunisian national team job after coaching Morocco for three years up to the 1998 World Cup finals.

Aris say the 54 year old Frenchman has been given leave and is expected back at work next week but by then the Tunisian federation expect to have confirmed Michel as their new coach.

Michel went to work at Aria in June but then owner Dimitris Kontominas then sold out to Yiannis Zahoudanis who appointed Andrias and the two began a feud over transfer money and team management.

Michel took France to third place in the 1986 World Cup and also coached Cameroon in the 1994 World Cup finals and Morocco four years later. He has also led PSG, Al Nasser of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates national team.
