Inter keep Ronaldo out of Derby of Italy

First Published: Oct 26, 2001

Brazilian striker Ronaldo will not play any part tomorrow as Inter travel to Turin to play Juventus.

The striker has now recovered from a thigh strain that saw him limp out of his second comeback game after seventeen months out of action following extensive knee surgery but Inter coach Hector Cuper is considering placing Ronaldo on the substitutes' bench.

Inter president Massimo Moratti said yesterday he did not think Ronaldo will be in tomorrow's squad but says coach Cuper can decide if the Brazilian takes any part in Inter's biggest game of the season so far.

Now Ronaldo has confirmed that he is not going to play:

"We decided together, Cuper and I. It's no surprise. I will continue to work for the comeback. We'll see on Sunday, when we start to prepare the UEFA Cup match against Wisla Krakow."

Ronaldo played for half an hour in his comeback in a first leg UEFA Cup tie last month but then injured a thigh muscle in the return leg.
